T-Mobile offers free laptop with mobile broadband
Mobile phone company T-Mobile has joined the likes of broadband provider AOL in offering a free laptop to customers who are prepared to sign up to its mobile broadband service.
Anyone entering the £30 a month mobile broadband contract will be entitled to pick up a free Acer Travelmate 5320, with a retail value of £349.99, provided that they stay in the mobile broadband agreement for 24 months.
The package - Mobile Broadband Plus - normally costs customers £10 a month for a 24-month contract, or twice that rate for just a year's mobile broadband service. It comes with a free USB modem stick and a 3GB monthly download allowance. However, with the cost of a 'free' laptop to cover, the company has raised the tariff to £30 a month.
The Acer, with a 15.4" screen, 120GB hard drive and Windows Vista Home Premium, is seen as the perfect enticement for customers new to T-Mobile's mobile broadband packages. The machine also has a built-in web-cam, a 5-in-1 card reader and is wireless-enabled so that you can access mobile broadband using your home Wi-fi network or T-Mobile hotspots. The new package also comes with no monthly limit on mobile broadband downloads.
The news comes amid claims by T-Mobile that more people than ever are signing up to mobile broadband packages, with 44% of people quizzed by the company saying they would like to access the internet anywhere in the country.
