Mobile internet users predicted to exceed one million by end of 2008
One of the biggest growing areas of the broadband marketplace is mobile broadband and with the number of mobile internet users growing every day it is estimated there will be over one million people in Britain using mobile internet before the end of 2008.
To substantiate this information, and according to Juniper Research, the number of mobile broadband users will keep on increasing with the amount of subscribers to mobile broadband exceeding one billion by 2012 - one study even says that half of all Europeans will be using mobile internet by this time.
Kevin Russell - the Chief Executive of media giant 3 - is the person on record as saying that he expects over a million Brits to be using mobile broadband by the end of this year. It is the fact he has seen his company's mobile internet service take off so well that prompted his predictions. Since the launch of 3's mobile broadband service in the latter part of last year, data traffic has rocketed on its 3G network with mobile internet usage with laptops proving particularly popular.
But this massive growth in mobile internet has also brought to attention the pitfalls of mobile broadband, particularly the issues of mobile broadband network capacity. However, one mobile broadband industry analyst quite confidently stated that mobile internet use is set to continue growing despite the technical abilities of mobile broadband lagging behind fixed-line broadband. It is the other positive advantages of mobile internet that will continue to increase its popularity, including the continuing advance in mobile internet refinement, better mobile broadband pricing and growing awareness of the mobile broadband service itself.
In fact, even for those analysts who have expressed their fears over mobile broadband network capacity and speed issues, there is now a clear upgrade path for mobile broadband and mobile internet access. The introduction of next generation technologies such as Wi-max and LTE (Long Term Evolution), which are expected by 2010, will provide mobile broadband and mobile internet access speeds of up to 100mbps - that's the equivalent to the speed people experience in their workplaces.
It looks like there is no stopping the evolution of mobile broadband.
