Mobile broadband speeds set to increase
If you're one of the many people already using mobile broadband, you may well be familiar with one of the platform's major downfalls: that it is not as fast as a home connection. Mobile broadband provider 3 is certainly aware of the issue, which is presumably why they have announced plans to upgrade their networks in order to increase mobile broadband speeds.
The plan, aimed at attracting new mobile broadband users put off by slow download and surfing speeds, would see the company initially boost the speed of their mobile broadband to 7.2Mb - around double the speed they currently offer - in the coming weeks, with a further promise to explore speeds of up to 14.4Mb in the future.
The proposals come in the wake of a huge increase in the number of people using mobile broadband to access the internet, and also calls by existing users that mobile broadband speeds be improved to allow for faster surfing and greater download capacities. "The appetite for data is huge, so we have to have a sufficiently deep network, to cater for all customers," a spokesperson for 3 told techradar.
The clearest indication that 3's plan is aimed primarily at attracting new customers to mobile broadband came from their spokesperson, who said: "What we hope to offer is greater capacity, in order to serve more [mobile broadband] users, rather than just focusing on the top speeds. However, the company could offer no firm dates for when their new higher-capacity services would be in place.
