Laptops to include Vodafone mobile broadband
Vodafone and PC manufacturer Lenovo have announced a new partnership which will revolutionise the mobile broadband market in the UK. The venture aims to save users of mobile broadband both time and money by incorporating a mobile broadband modem into the laptop. Customers will no longer have to invest in a separate 3G Data card or dongle for their laptop as the necessary hardware will already be built in to the machine during manufacture.
Lenovo are a relatively unknown Chinese business who have recently acquired the IBM Personal Computing Division, and are responsible for manufacturing the renowned ThinkPad notebooks. The partnership between Vodafone, one of the UK's leading broadband providers, and Lenovo is just one of many being formed by mobile broadband providers and laptop manufacturers.
Lenovo customers will have the option of having mobile broadband technology included in their notebooks. The built in module that provides the mobile broadband service are customer replaceable which potentially allows the customer to upgrade .The new product range will consist of 9 notebooks with prices starting from £760 and will be available to buy for August 4th.
Ensuring that they don't alienate customers who are not looking for the 3G connectivity, Vodafone are offering a 30 day mobile broadband trial. This will give users the option to try out the new mobile broadband service and decide if they want to continue with it.
Vodafone have predicted that within 12 months the majority of laptops used will have these built in mobile broadband modules.
