Coming soon: broadband in your car
Car manufacturer Chrysler has announced they will be launching cars in the UK by the end of 2009 which will allow customers to access the internet through a mobile broadband device which is placed in the vehicle.
Connection to the internet will be established via a device which is placed in the boot and connects to the internet using a mobile broadband connection. The device will then produce its own wireless signal within a 1000ft radius.
From a safety point of view, this new in-car mobile broadband will come with a warning to ensure drivers do not use it while driving, although there are fears that people will ignore the warning.
Autonet, the company who will be providing the in car systems for Chrysler have tried to reassure people by saying , "We want this to be the ultimate in-car entertainment system so people can play games, watch a film, download music or just write an e-mail while travelling. It's logical, he said. "But this is marketed at the passenger; we don't promote surfing and driving at all.
The new device will also have security features included, which could allow car owners to turn off head lights and lock the doors of their car, without leaving the house by using the internet.
BMW have also shown interest in the mobile broadband device and are likely to follow suit by putting them in their vehicles by 2010.
