Our View

Virgin Media is the UK’s second biggest home broadband provider after BT. Their superfast and reliable broadband is available by itself, or as part of one of their many bundles at great inclusive prices. Hailed as the Most Trusted ISP of 2008 by Reader’s Digest magazine, Virgin Media are setting the broadband benchmark.

Their three home broadband products are varied and therefore suitable for all types of customer. They range from light usability to heavy, and can be combined in any way with phone and/or digital TV to create the ideal home media plan. Customers can even opt to include a mobile phone plan in their Virgin Media subscription. Essentially, this means Virgin can cater to an entirety of media needs.

Packages

Virgin Media have a range of 3 main home broadband packages. Each one can be suitably mixed with digital TV and/or a home phone plan to provide for individual needs.
  • Virgin Media Broadband M: If you take a Virgin phone line at £11 a month, you’ll get this package for £4.50 a month for the first 12 months (and £16 a month thereafter). If not, it’s £10 a month for 6 months and £17 a month thereafter. Downloads are unlimited and connection speeds are up to 2Mbps.

  • Virgin Media Broadband L: £8 a month for 6 months when taken with a Virgin phone line for £11 a month (£8 increases to £16 after 6 months). Without the line rental, the product is £17 a month for 6 months, and £24 a month thereafter. Downloads are unlimited and customers can connect at generous speeds of up 10Mbps.

  • Virgin Media Broadband XL: This is Virgin’s ultimate broadband deal. Downloads are unlimited, and you’ll connect at superfast speeds of up to 20Mbps. If you take a Virgin Media home phone line at £11 a month, this broadband plan is just £10 for the first 6 months and £20 a month thereafter. If you choose not to take a phone line, you can sign up for £29 a month for 12 months and then £36 after that.
Reputation

Virgin Media have rightfully earned their reputation as a good all-round provider. They are currently the only company operating within the UK that can offer you digital TV, home phone, broadband and mobile phone under one umbrella.

Their myriad awards speak for themselves, and include 2 Gold Broadband Awards for 2007, an InGear Best Buy 2008 award, and a UK Internet Industry Award for Best Customer ISP 2007. Their broadband packages are provided at a great price considering there are no download limits, however, when you choose to mix in TV or home phone bundles, Virgin Media really offer some of the best deals around.

Customer Service

Virgin Media offer various methods of customer support. They will respond to query emails within 48 hours, although more pressing issues can be dealt with via one of their various helplines. The general technical helpline for broadband/TV/phone is 0845 454 1111, or customers with a Virgin landline can call 151 for free-of-charge technical help. Any changes that need making to accounts, or bill issues, can easily be dealt with via email or by using the relevant helpline numbers as listed on their website.
