Our View

Of all the companies to offer home broadband, TalkTalk rank by far as one of the cheapest. They are a decent and well-regarded ISP, with most of the hype over the relatively new company (their phone products have only been available to the public since 2003, and broadband since 2004) in the broadband market stemming from its extraordinarily competitive pricing.

As they provide affordable broadband and landline combinations, they appeal to a mass residential market. Many are tired of paying over the odds for their home media requirements, and TalkTalk have presented the solution to this with respectable broadband offers and plenty of inclusive free calls in their deals, and perhaps unusually, to overseas numbers as well as UK landlines.

Packages

TalkTalk only offer their broadband package to those with line rental and a home phone deal through them. Currently, they offer one basic plan:

  • Essentials Package: a £10.50 line rental is payable to TalkTalk instead of BT. There is then a charge of £6.49 a month for the call and broadband elements of the plan, making a total monthly payment of £16.99. The package includes free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines, anytime calls to other TalkTalk customers, and free calls to 36 international destinations. A wireless router is included free so customers can connect to the TalkTalk broadband service at speeds of up to 8Mbps. There is a monthly download limit of 40GB.

  • BOOSTS: TalkTalk have simplified their joint phone and broadband selection into just one deal, the essentials package detailed above. However, in order that every customer receives exactly what they require, TalkTalk offer a series of optional “BOOSTS” as add ons. They are £4 a month extra each, and are selections such as increased surfing speed, more download allowance, extra call features or security features, though there several others to choose from.

Reputation

TalkTalk has a reputation for delivering affordable landline and broadband plans, however they do not sacrifice product quality. Their inclusive call packages and broadband parameters are by no means minimal or limiting, and customers are therefore free to enjoy them without paying over the odds. TalkTalk are also renowned for consistently refreshing their offers.

It is not unusual to find TalkTalk offering half price or free broadband for a limited period when you sign up to a TalkTalk landline deal. Generally speaking, it’s fair to say all TalkTalk offers are financially enticing, an attribute reflected in their two 2008 USwitch Awards for No.1 Bundle Best Value for Money and No.1 Home Phone Best For Billing.

Customer Service

TalkTalk provide new and existing customers with an online help desk, which features a thorough array of information offered on many common issues. There is telephone, email and postal help available again for both new and existing customers. Existing customers benefit from the online resource “My Account.” Here, billing and personal details can be monitored and/or edited as required.
