O2 broadband packages

O2 broadband was launched in October 2007. Even though it’s a relative newcomer on the broadband scene, it is already storming its way into the market.

This is largely due to two factors. The first is that O2 has taken over the British-based Internet Service Provider, Be Broadband, which offers a very fast broadband connection and is very reliable. The benefits to the 02 broadband customer, therefore, are great.

The second is O2s emphasis on customer service. O2 Broadband offers UK-based technical support 24 hours a day. This is a blessing to anyone who has experienced the frustration of being transferred to a foreign call centre, which can be expensive. It is perhaps O2s extensive telecommunications experience that has taught them to operate in this way.

Both speed and service are big selling points for O2 Broadband, and they are using them to lure in customers – both existing O2 mobile customers and non-O2 customers – who are perhaps disgruntled with the broadband packages and speeds they are receiving with other providers. Its packages are very good value for O2 pay-monthly mobile customers, but less competitive for pay-as-you-go O2 mobile customers, or non-O2 mobile customers.

O2 Broadband will ensure you have the correct package, by conducting a line test before installing your broadband. The team will repeat this test one month later, and will switch customers over to a more appropriate package if they are not receiving the broadband speed they are paying for.

Company History

O2 was originally part of British Telecommunications – then known as BT Wireless and then later as BT Cellnet – and was BTs first venture into mobile network service provision.

After a de-merger in 2001, the mobile arm of the company split from BT, giving itself the new identity of O2. The company O2 performed well independently for five years in the UK, maintaining a strong foothold in the mobile phone market.

However, perhaps in a bid to secure even greater power, O2 has recently merged with the Spanish telecommunications leader Telefonica. This will give O2 a greater presence in the European market, particularly in Germany.

O2 also has share in other smaller mobile network providers, such as Tesco Mobile and Tchibo Mobilfunk. Its latest venture takes it firmly into the broadband market, following its acquisition of the internet service provider Be Broadband. It’s certainly a case of one to watch, as O2 broadband is sure to receive a multitude of awards once it becomes further established.
