New broadband concept unites friends and families

Families, friends and students all over the world are to be brought closer together through a new broadband experience.

A broadband website, view2gether, combines two popular broadband pastimes – social networking and watching TV over broadband.

The novel broadband concept enables users to watch videos over broadband through streaming technology, and strike up conversations about what they are watching. It is the social element which makes the broadband site original.

“What social viewing really does in this context is it allows people to watch videos together from any number of sources, to chat about them and to search for other videos that they may be interested in,” Richard Klagsbrun, the company’s Senior Vice President, told the BBC World Service’s Digital Planet programme.

“The site allows people who are physically apart to feel close,” he added. “People have friends and family all over the world and this site gives them the opportunity to get together in a way that no other media does right now.”

The new broadband concept also has the potential to be useful to university lecturers and students.

“We’ve had educators contact us who have said that this is an ideal way of teaching a class as sometimes students don’t have an opportunity to physically be there,” said Mr Klagsburn.

Users of the broadband site can create and participate within lounges, which are created every time a broadband user selects a video, and are usually based on a central topic. This could be anything from UFOs to celebrity gossip.
