Broadband users paying over the odds
Increased competition and a desire to attract new customers has seen broadband providers slash the costs of their packages in recent times, but new research shows that some people are still paying too much for their broadband.
Comparison website Broadband Expert found that 70 per cent of customers were spending more than they need to on their broadband services.
The study looked at 70,000 customers who had signed up to deals this year, in particular those who had taken up 8Mb packages, and compared the prices they were paying for their broadband with the best deals currently on the market. The average broadband customer pays £16.98 per month for an 8Mbps broadband package. However, some providers offer similar packages for under £10 a month.
And with prices dropping all the time, customers are advised to keep track of the amount they are paying. "A customer who signed up for a broadband package two years ago could be paying two to three times the amount they would pay if they signed up to a similar or better package today," said a spokesman.
Broadband users can make sure they get the best possible deals and stay one step ahead of the price cuts by using comparison sites like
Compare Broadband UK, where all the best value packages are listed in terms of their value to the customer. The site is continually updated with all the latest information on the best deals.
