Broadband bundles now cheaper than broadband alone
Over the past two years, the UK broadband market has seen a tremendous growth in the number of packages that come bundled with other services, with the most popular being the multitude of 'broadband-plus-home phone' deals offered by providers including
BT and Virgin Media.
With prices for stand alone broadband seemingly cheaper than ever before, it may surprise you to find out that it could actually work out cheaper to get your broadband and phone as part of the same package, rather than signing up to separate deals.
Research by market analysts Point Topic has revealed that, with competition between ISPs to provide customers with the best deals growing ever more fierce, it is the customers who are set to benefit as prices fall.
In the UK, the average price of a broadband-plus-telephone bundle is now less than the cost of getting broadband by itself, while a VoIP (where you use your broadband connection to talk over the internet) bundle is even cheaper still.
According to Point Topic, this makes simple business sense. "A subscriber who takes more than one service from an ISP is more likely to stay with that provider. They are likely to generate more revenue than plain broadband subscribers and that's what the ISPs require," says the report. With providers slashing bundle prices in order to lure you in, it seems it's worth shopping around to see what bargains you can get.
