Bedside broadband in French hospitals

Motorola has paved for the way for a more patient-friendly hospital experience with bedside broadband.

Its T2 power broadband has been installed in three hospitals managed by French private healthcare provider, Generale de Sante.

According to Motorola, its service provides an advanced broadband infrastructure to support multimedia services delivered over the existing telephone line, eliminating the need for additional cabling or electrical work in patient rooms which have a high degree of cleanliness.

Motorola has worked in partnership with Netlogon, a French integrator of network and mobility services, in order to smoothly carry broadband into a highly clinical environment. Broadband terminals have been installed by the beds in each of the three hospitals enabling patients to take their mind off medical procedures with email and broadband browsing, as well as telephone calls, live TV and movies. The broadband terminals also give patients added peace of mind by facilitating their communication with medical personnel.

The French hospital broadband experience is expected to be further enhanced in 2009 when the broadband terminals will provide medical staff with fingertip access to clinical information. The confidential data will include patient records, lab results and X-ray images – all of which should further the quality of treatment within the private hospitals.

Alexandre Ple, IT manager for Generale de Sante clinics, said that broadband and multimedia bedside facilities allow the provision 'hotel-like' service that patients increasingly demand.
