88,400 customers join Virgin Media in the last quarter
Even without expanding its current cable broadband network, Virgin Media's broadband deals have seen the provider add 88,400 new customers to its broadband services. The number of additional users signing up to Virgin Media's broadband deals and packages is boosted further by the news of an extra 36,800 TV connections. These figures represent subscribers to Virgin Media's broadband deals, packages and services in the quarter ending 31st March 2008.
The news about the extra users clearly indicates that Virgin Media's broadband and TV customers are responding to the provider's broadband deals and advertising messages. The provider is dedicated to delivering what it terms next generation broadband and it has also focussed firmly on promoting its on-demand TV services. Virgin Media's success with its broadband deals and TV packages puts it in a strong position to grow the business even further with additional broadband deals, and and to push their future broadband deals even harder.
The future of the provider revolves very firmly around the broadband deals it will offer on its forthcoming 50Mbps cable broadband package. Virgin Media is hoping its broadband deals, services and packages will appeal to a sufficient number of customers to make all of the investment worthwhile.
The real challenge is going to be offering broadband deals on its 50Mbps services that appeal when compared with the broadband deals available on the cheaper, but also very high-speed, and increasingly popular ADSL2+.
Broadband deals on a 50Mbps cable connection will obviously be attractive for their speed but will the increase in price above the current 20Mbps broadband deals and packages appeal to more than 5 or 10% of customers?
Only time will tell if Virgin Media's future broadband deals and services will prove successful.
