59 of UK Broadband Users Go Wireless
Results from a recent broadband survey commissioned by Linksys, one of the world's leading manufacturers of voice, wireless and networking hardware, have shown that 59% of UK homes with broadband have installed wireless broadband networks. The survey also showed that 87% of those with wireless broadband have attached their PC or Laptop to the broadband network. In total, 96% of respondents said they have a PC or Laptop at home with high percentages also owning the latest digital gadgets, such as digital music players, hard disk recorders and games consoles.
Those with wireless broadband networks are also incorporating their other hardware into the wireless world, with 28% attaching their printers, 20% their games consoles and 6% their digital music players. The wireless broadband trend is being seen as the start of a change in consumer habits, with people beginning to be less daunted by developing technologies, especially with the broadband market changing so rapidly. Consumers are also thinking bigger and embracing the idea of a technology-filled home, with the starting point for many being a wireless broadband network.
Still, 37% of those who expressed a desire to explore these technologies reported that they were hesitant to do so because of a lack of technical knowledge, concerns over cost hold back 25% and the anticipated set up time puts off 24%. There's some way to go before the majority of our homes fully embrace all the latest technologies but wireless broadband, and the rapid improvement in broadband services, seems to be leading the way.
