'How much broadband do you use?' ask PlusNet

Nearly eight out of ten people have no idea how much of their monthly usage allowance they use from their broadband provider. That's according to research commissioned by PlusNet. In fact, over a quarter of people don't know what their limit is. Do you? Well fear not. There's no need to get penalised with charges for exceeding your limit.

PlusNet has just launched a simple usage calculator to make it easy to work out what you use, and what kind of package you should be on.

The calculator is available at mybroadbandusage.co.uk. It's an easy to navigate site that can tell you everything from What a GB is, to a detailed breakdown of how much broadband you use up, on each type of web surfing that you do. It's a brilliant interactive tool that can help you understand your downloading habits and get an insight into what they're costing you.

For example, technologies such as YouTube and BBC iPlayer take up a lot of bandwidth and if you use them when your broadband package doesn't support it, you could get hit with penalties from hidden 'fair usage' policies.

Streaming music and video are great bonuses to home broadband - and the new PlusNet calculator can help make sure you don't get stung while doing it.

Finding the best broadband backage

"Using your broadband with no idea of your limit, or level of consumption, is like making calls on your mobile phone without checking your bill or even knowing what contract you're signed up to" claims Neil Armstron,g a spokesman for PlusNet. "Our calculator is designed to stop that once and for all, ensuring customers are absolutely clear and confident with the broadband choices they have made."

In tandem with raising consumer awareness of their downloading habits, PlusNet have also increased the allowances on their higher usage packages, without raising the prices. Option 2 rises to 15GB from 8GB. Option 3 moves up to 30GB from 20GB. And Pro from 10GB to 15GB.
