PAYG mobile broadband

If you don’t access the internet a lot, or you just don’t want the commitment of a 12 month contract, Pay as you go mobile broadband can be an option. Effectively, it’s a package with no wires, no hotspots and no lengthy contract. Packages are available with either a one month contract period, or a true pay as you go option with no contract at all. That means you’re charged according to how long you spend browsing websites, sending and receiving emails, playing games online etc.

Obviously it means you can’t leave your computer on, downloading movies or music from the internet, as it all costs you money. Some Pay as you go ISP broadband providers offer a cost capping to their payment structures . This means your bill won’t exceed a certain amount every month which can be useful if you are unsure how much cost you’ll be racking up. Some providers will just sell you a modem and then you simply buy top ups in the same way as you would with a pay as you go top up mobile phone.

There’s no need to worry about sacrificing speed with Pay as you go, as the first ISPs are now offering a Pay as you go service at high speeds, using the next generation broadband technology ADSL2+.

Bear in mind the set up costs for all Pay as you go packages though. For Pay as you go mobile broadband, you may need to spend around £50 on a mobile dongle, so it could still be worth considering one of the cheaper contract packages.
